Mixed montane forrest with open habitat. Slope ca. 10 degrees; soil clay loam; west orientation, in full sun. Associated plants: Abies concolor, Pseudotsuga macrocarpa, Ceanothus oliganthus.
Perennial shrub to 3 m tall. Bark reddish brown and pealing. Leaves deep glossy green. Corolla white.
