Piñon - juniper woodland.; Scattered along channel of narrow gravelly-rocky wash channel, growing in sun and partial shade. Locally common. Rosettes scattered, of varying ages.
Stems 1-several per caudex, to > 1 m tall. Corollas pale purple, darkening in age. Anther tube whitish at first, aging purple. Styles purple-tipped.
